World's First AI News Anchor Developed in China

The world has never been disappointed by the innovation from the Chinese innovators. Speaking of the world’s first AI News Anchor, it is developed and unveiled in China. The Chinese are very keen to display their newest technology to the world.

China’s state news agency Xinhua introduced the newest member to the addition to the newsreader panel. The first news that it read was regarding the personal information about who he was and how he intended to change the news viewing and reading experience.

Debuted on the last Thursday, at the occasion of the World Internet Conference in the country’s eastern Zhejiang Province, the AI anchor is claimed to be the first move towards the involvement of the technology in the newsreader as well. The AI News Anchor is modeled on the agency’s Zhang Zhao presenter. The new anchor learns from the live videos and is capable of working 24/7, 365 days of the year tirelessly.

The anchor wears a red tie and pin-striped suit to the presentation. The AI anchor performs some humanly move as well like nodding the head in emphasizing some important parts, it blinks its eyes frequently and raises its eyebrows slightly in the emphasis. You would not have known if it wasn’t for the news to have broadcasted its identity.

The AI Anchor is developed by Xinhua and the Chinese search engine, Sogou. The anchors were developed through machine learning to simulate the voice, facial expression and real-life like gestures.

It greets the Chinese media and introduces itself saying, “The development of the media industry calls for continuous innovation and deep integration with the international advanced technologies.” It holds true in many scenarios, we still are held by the human news readers while other forms of media have always adopted the latest technology.

Scope of AI

According to Xinhua, AI technology isn’t just limited to news reading, but it can also be customized and modeled according to the needs of other different clients in other industries as well. The implementation of AI reader in the news sector is the casting of the possibilities of the AI in many other sectors and plants a strong base in how it can be a boost on the countries development and economy.
